US-Sino Relations Empty US-Sino Relations

Post  New Roosevelt Wed Jun 17, 2009 10:01 am

Is it just me, or do the US and China rely upon each other far too much? They are the biggest traders in the world, and they each can only survive from the other.

The US needs China to act as its own personal bank, China buys US debt.

In exchange, China gets weapons, and further advancements in technology.

While of course there are many other factors to this, I think this is the census. Since these two could be considered the most powerful in the world, the US is, and while China still is not completely industrialized, is still a world power, what would happen if one of them were to fail?

Imagine if the PRC fell to another Civil War. A very possible scenario, a prolonged Civil War, with Pro-Democracy rebels against the so-called, "Communist Party of China." That would literally kill the american economy, even when a victor were to emerge, it would take years for the chinese economy to bounce back, leaving the US economy in a state which I can't imagine.

Thoughts on a possible end of the world as we know it scenario?

While I don't think it'll come to a second Chinese civil war, I agree that they rely on each other too much.

And if something were to happen to one, the other would likely collapse.

I think a civil war is less likely to emerge because America saved China in 1972. In 1969 the Russians had 25 full strength battalions ready to invade on the border with China and it only really was averted because America needed to talk to get out of Vietnam.
I don't think that their collapse is imminent and I believe if they did both go a rise in one of either Europe, South Central Asia (India) or Africa would occur. If history has taught us anything its that someone will always be the power. First it was Mesopotamia, then Babylon, Persia, Greece, Rome, The Holy roman Empire (very different), Spain/Portugal, Britain, America/Russia and now just America. It will change. America got lucky in my opinion, they came to power at the onset of the mass media and the Internet.

Well, maybe, I think it is more the lingering effects of WW2. Which turned into the Cold War. With many of the world powers in shambles, they had to turn to the US or the USSR. It was one or the other. And since many weren't communist/socialist they went with the US.

Then half-a century later the USSR collapses and the US is left as the only Superpower. It's not like the US did anything spectacular. We simply survived, that's about it.

No I meant that America get the rooted dominance over the most important progress in global connection since Britain and the train.

In my opinion China has been going down hill since 1790.

In what aspects has China been going down hill since before it had stopped the dynasty eras?

They have one of the fastest growing economies in the world. They control their people with an iron-fist. What could possibly be wrong? lol!

I am not sure what could be wrong. But the fact that the U.S. will eventually fail as a power is unavoidable. All powers fail eventually. They try to stretch beyond their capabilities. The U.S. has and is doing this. At least from my observations. The U.S. Sticks its nose in places it doesnt belong and that is a serious problem. Eventually something will happen and the U.S. will go to far or some other country with enough power will get annoyed enough with the U.S. and the U.S. will collapse because of what results.

What history has shown us is that power moves westward, and i will copy what was said earlier

Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, France, Spain, France (napoleon), Britain, EUROPE, USA, (almost went to USSR)

we all know that the next westward move is to either China (most likely), Russia (least likely), or India (not enough info). In my opinion it will be China, they will soon have the largest economy, third largest army, a mix of communism and capitalism that is Working, hand-in-hand ties with Russia, satellite states all over east Asia, and literally have the US in chains: imagine if they stop selling us stuff and/or giving us money? It would be like what the Russians did to Ukraine last year with Gazprom, it would spell D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R.

I highly highly doubt the Unites States will collapse. However I do agree we won't always be the only power.
